The BEGINNING, MIDDLE & END Of Glorious Melbourne!
Either it's shot like a tourism commercial, with trams, Flinders St Station and people rolling big balls of string down alleyways, or it's the dark, brooding bluestone world of Chopper and Animal Kingdom.
However the new, young generation of indie filmmakers who've grown up in and around inner city Melbourne are starting to do things noticeably different. They are using Melbourne as a backdrop, a texture, an ambience -- then shooting the film in such a way that it has the feel of the city; without hiding it, or bludgeoning you over the head with it.
Take this new indie feature, Beginning, Middle & End, which does just that. It also tells the story of a young man's summer of love, music & life in the city of Melbourne, using a soundtrack by local Aussie and Kiwi bands, and apparently mixing animation sequences with live action.
Computer says the film comes out in limited release next year but until then you can watch the teaser below.
