Vijay Is Your Dancing Superhero In VELAYUDHAM This Diwali
This Diwali (October 26th) is a crowded one on the Indian film calendar. Battling 7aam Arivu for the top spot on the Tamil charts this year will be Vijay's superhero film, Velayudham.  This film has been in production forever, and it seems like it kept getting delayed as well, until it landed on the Diwali spot. I've seen bits and pieces of the film flying around on the net over the last 8 months or so, but I wanted to post a real trailer before I made any sort of comment on the film, so here it is.

Unfortunately, the full trailer seems to confirm my general disinterest in this title.  It seems that there is a ton of singing and dancing and fan service to Vijay, but not a whole lot of action. The star system in India is very powerful, and often just the mention of a name in a film is enough to draw crowds, regardless of advance word or actual quality of the film, and Vijay is one of the stars in Tamil Nadu who can draw like that. The strange thing is that, even though 7aam Arivu looks like a much more solid film just based on the trailer, Velayudham has a decent chance of beating it out at the box office, though I hope that reason wins the day and that doesn't happen.

Vijay and co-star Genelia D'Souza dance up a storm in this rather lengthy first trailer from Velayudham, and that's about it.  There is a lot of superheroesque posing on Vijay's part, but not much actual action.  If they don't even tease the action in the trailer, it makes me wary that there isn't much there to tease.  Oh well, I've got two Diwali films on my calendar to see, so if I miss Velayudham for a few days, it won't kill me. Watch the trailer below and let me know what you think, I am not impressed.
