THE RITE on BLURAY

This horror film does something dangerous- it meanders too much.  But that doesn't really take away from Sir Anthony's performance. He has a grand old time with his role as possessed exorcist, Father Lucas Trevant. This isn't just a simple Hannjibal Lecter imitation no matter what the critics say. This is a sharply defined character all it's own. Effectively counter-balancing him is Colin O'Donoghue who, in his role as the skeptical if at times bland novice Michael Kovak sent to train with Trevant. Thankfully as the movie takes shape Kovak comes into increasing focus and by the end he assumes his role of new found faith with a compelling forcefulness. This isn't a perfect film by any means. In fact at times it teeters on the edge of boring. But the moments that work work very well indeed. The extras included here include a DVD of the film and Digital Copy as well as a too short featurette on real inspiration for the film Father Gary Thomas, deleted scenes, alternate ending and BD Live.
