The Collective and Bloody Disgusting close U.S. Deal at SXSW to Distribute Apocalyptic Comedy Phase 7
LOS ANGELES -- March 22, 2011 -- The Collective, a full-service entertainment management and content company, and top horror website BloodyDisgusting.com, have acquired all US rights to Phase 7(Fase 7), Nicolás Goldbart's apocalyptic comedy which premiered last week at SXSW and won the prize for Best Screenplay at the Sitges Film Festival in October.
Executive Produced by Steven Schneider ("Paranormal Activity"), Fase 7 stars Berlin Silver Bear winner Daniel Hendler ("Lost Embrace") as a husband who has just moved into a new apartment with his seven-months-pregnant wife when their building is quarantined due to a deadly epidemic. Soon the residents of the building become unexpected enemies, and the husband is forced to join forces with his loony next-door neighbor to defend the contents of his fridge and keep his pregnant wife safe.
The film will be distributed in 32 key markets through The Collective and Bloody Disgusting's partnership with leading theatrical and exhibition company AMC Theatres, as well as on DVD through The Collective's home-video partnership with Vivendi Universal.
"From the moment we saw Fase 7 at the Sitges Film Festival, we knew this unique and incredibly entertaining film marked the debut of a major filmmaker," said Gary Binkow, a partner at the Collective. "We couldn't be more excited to collaborate with Bloody Disgusting and AMC to introduce Nicolás to a US audience as part of our efforts to showcase outstanding horror films and thrillers from the international marketplace."
"I love its relevance to what's happening in our world and the rapidly growing sense of paranoia. It caters to our real life fears in a way that is both terrifying and hilarious." Said Bloody Disgusting's Brad Miska.
Goldbart is a longtime film editor who has edited more than 20 features, including films by Argentinean directors Pablo Trapero, Alejandro Chomski and Rodrigo Moreno. Fase 7 is his first film as director and screenwriter.
Fase 7 is the latest acquisition by The Collective and Bloody Disgusting since launching their distribution partnership with AMC Theaters dedicated to acquiring and marketing the best horror and thriller titles from the festival and international markets.
The deal was negotiated by Maren Kroymann, CEO, Sales and Acquisitions at M-Appeal, and by Collective partner Gary Binkow and Head of Film Acquisitions Roxanne Benjamin.
