Daryl Hannah Will Bang 600 Men In One Day. Cast Locks For Palahniuk's SNUFF.

Chuck Palahniuk is one of those writers that Hollywood loves but can't quite figure out what to do with. After the success of David Fincher's adaptation of his novel Fight Club every single one of Palahniuk's current books had their film rights optioned - a trend that has generally continued since - but the only one to actually make it to screen was a middling version of Choke. The issue - as anyone who has read Palahniuk can tell you - is that all of the things that make him some a powerful draw on the page are also things that you just can't get away with on the big screen. He's a smart and incisive writer but also violent and gleefully smutty, his work reflecting what it is to be male in a society that has become morally unhinged. In that context the transgressive stuff isn't a frill or an add-on that can be safely removed to keep the MPAA happy, it's all vital to the point and if you cut it out there's no point in making a movie of it in the first place.

Which is why it pleases me to no end that the next Palahniuk novel likely to make it to the big screen is not one of the 'safer' titles but Snuff, the story of an aging porn star who decides to exit the industry in a blaze of glory by breaking the world record for most men fucked in a single day. She needs six hundred to do it. Six hundred men in twenty four hours.

How on earth do you make something like this? Well, you gotta cast it, first, and writer director Fabien Martorell has just done exactly that. Daryl Hannah has signed on as porn queen Cassie Wright, Thora Birch as Cassie's assistant and Tom Sizemore as Mr 600 - a pretty fantastic manipulation of a performer's real life image issues to suit a role. Here's hoping they can put the money together ...
