Produced as his graduation project from the National Filmschool Of Denmark, twenty nine year old Danish director Nikolaj Feifer is certain to turn heads around the world with his short film Junk Love.

Produced by Mikkel Jersin N, the film stars Robert-nominated actor Peter Plaugborg (Submarino) as Edwin, the lone crew member aboard the SS Hamlet, a spacecraft slowly leaking his oxygen supply into space. If he cannot find a way to fix the leak his own life will be lost. Lisa Carlehed, Rasmus Botoft abd David Owe also star.

Feifer is taking a very serious approach to the material here, rooting his character not in action or adventure but in his crisis and his relationship with his ex-wife back on earth. Couple that with a classic approach to his design work and it's hard not to see echos of Solaris and 2001 in the film's brief teasers.

Feifer describes his approach to the material this way, "I got the idea because I originally wanted to make a story about an ill dying man. Then I thought to myself that instead of doing the classical hospital story, what could be a much more interesting metaphor? Well, for instance a man in a metal coffin as far away from everything as possible - One man alone in space."

Says producer Mikkel Jersin N, "To me it seems that Danish cinema has been struggling with a lack of original ideas for some time now. When Nikolaj introduced me to this project, I knew straight away that he was on to something special. And I knew that he was probably the only Danish director with the guts to pull it off."

Junk Love will premiere in Danish cinemas this June before beginning an international festival run. Get a taste of the picture with the two teasers below and the trio of stills in the gallery. The space ship image comes courtesy of Rolf Konow while the other two are courtesy of Fotografica.
