SyFy: 'Eureka' and 'Warehouse 13' - The Christmas episodes!
As part of SyFy Christmas Week two of the network's successful shows, Eureka and Warehouse 13, each get their own Christmas episodes this Tuesday night. Eureka is in the middle of a mid season break and WH13 is preparing for a third season so it is nice to have these two shows return even if it is for one episode. Eureka is arguably coming off its best season yet and WH13 seems to have found a firm footing at the network. Both of the 'here we go again' sci-fi comedies have found that ratings winning formula and have escaped that freshman flop that usually claims one or more of the network's debut series each year. Speaking of which, I wonder if WH13 guest star Paul Blackthorne's Christmas wish was it was his SyFy show, The Dresden Files, that was still filming here in Toronto and got its own Christmas special?

As Global Dynamics celebrates the season with its company holiday party, staff member Dr. Noah Drummer [guest star Chris Parnell] nearly absconds with a volatile experiment. The halls get seriously decked when Dr. Drummer's unstable hydrogen crystal starts to grow at a frightening rate. Carter and Henry attempt to deal with the potentially explosive crystal, but before long the true scope of the problem is revealed, and it will take more than tinsel and carolers to save Christmas in Eureka.

As the Warehouse team prepares to celebrate the holidays in snowy South Dakota, Pete and Myka are called upon to hunt down a malevolent Santa Claus. Meanwhile, in time for Hanukkah, Artie and his estranged father, Isadore Weisfelt [guest star Judd Hirsch], reunite after 30 years. Paul Blackthorne also guest stars as a harried work-a-holic who becomes terrorized by a strange series of robberies committed by a thief dressed as "jolly old Saint Nick".

Just when I was beginning to get worried that the writers of Eureka were running out of material the time travel story arc injected new life into the series. Finally, there was something really at stake for the core characters of the show. And while we have yet to see if they continue with that in the second half of the fourth series they're taking a break from that for this Christmas episode. One could almost assume everything is fine now as Carter sits down with some of the younger residents of this town called Eureka and tells a tale of a Christmas past with everyone in the same role as we left them at the end of the first half of the current season. Bah humbug! I'm nitpicking of course. Nitpicking my red shirt. This episode, "O' Little Town", is full of Christmas cheer and good humor; even if the fromage factor escalates a tad this time around. WH13 is coming off another good season, mixing humor and rewriting history for its own means to create artifacts that create trouble around world. I've enjoyed these first two seasons of WH13. And while one will have to be prepared for an allowable amount of sappiness and Christmas spirit to permeate throughout this episode, 'Secret Santa', as well, but there is still room for a Nutcracker joke.

So yeah, with holiday episodes there will always be themes of goodwill to all men, Christmas cheer, spending time with the ones you love, and there is no shortage of that in either episode. So if you need a little help to get into the holiday spirit plunk yourself down in front of the TV this Tuesday night with your family and spend some time in Eureka and Warehouse 13. They'll get you into the Christmas spirit in time for that other seminal sci-fi show has its annual Christmas episode [ducks and hides].
