More Filipino pride, represent, yo!
Cavite, the film by Ian Gamazon and Neill dela Llana, is going on limited release in New York and Los Angeles this May 26. And is going to be released to more theaters after that. Find out more at their website.
The movie is about a Filipino American returning home for his father's funeral only to find out that his mother and sister have been kidnapped by the Abu Sayyaf. An unlikely premise, in my opinion, considering most of the Abu Sayyaf have been eliminated and they never got near Manila in the first place. (They operate more than a thousand miles away.) My national pride aside, this movie has been winning a whole slew of awards on the film festival circuit and has very ardent support of those who have seen it. (I haven't.)
