The Maestro of the Italian Cinema Grande Bernardo Bertolucci has been treated by DVD producers around the world with much disrespect. His most notable works: Last Tango in Paris and The Last Emperor are being offered with horrendous DVD trasnfers, OR as it is the case with 1900 and Il Conformista they simply do not exists on DVD. Well, it seems like the wait is finally over for those that want to own the controversial 1900 in their collections. After being released 2 yeasr ago on a splendid double set in Italy (sadly without Engslih subtitles) it appears that the rest of the world is slowly catching up with the Azzuri.

In the German speaking part of Europe, MGM has just released a double set which finally offers English subtitles. Now it seems that Australia is also going to release 1900 on July 13 which hopefully will ring a bell with someone at Paramount Studios here in the States as they do appear to be the rights owners. Regardless, for those of you that are not willing to wait either the German/Austrian version, which is English friendly, or the upcoming Australian disc should be an option. For the rest of us in the US...I guess only time will tell how long we need to wait.
