Crowdfund This: ROBODOC: The Creation of Robocop Documentary. Would You Buy This For A Dollar?
Has it been nearly 30 years since Paul Verhoeven’s ultra-violent action pic Robocop sprayed copious amounts of guts and blood across screens around the World? The action flick riddled with bullets and social commentary, some of which would seem prophetic now, spawned many not as great sequels, television shows and remakes over the years but the original remains a fan favorite still to this day.
Some of those fans are getting together and making a documentary to pay tribute to the film for its 30th anniversary. Having already made documentaries about horror flicks Hellraiser and Fright Night they are now raising funds for this new project, Robodoc: The Creation of Robocop. You can visit their Kickstarter campaign page to help out.
From Dead Mouse Productions Ltd and Cult Screenings UK Ltd, makers of 'Leviathan: The Story of Hellraiser and Hellbound: Hellraiser II' and 'You're so cool, Brewster! The Story of Fright Night' comes this new documentary 'RoboDoc'. A fully independent retrospective into the making of 'RoboCop' and its cultural impact over the last 30 years. Supported by dozens of the original cast and crew 'RoboDoc' is made by fans of the movie for fans of the movie. The crew have already received support from over 20 of the cast and crew as well as the RoboCopArchive, and there is no doubt that by the time of production many more key players will be attached to share their amazing stories about one of the most iconic movies ever-made.
The documentary is made as a labour of love by a team of 'RoboCop' fans, Director Christopher Griffiths states "To say that RoboCop is a big part of my life is an understatement. Just ask anybody who knows me. It is the film that started it all for me at an age when I probably shouldn't have been watching it, like many others, but I did, and I have grown up with it and found new things each time I watch it."
So far the project has brought on actors like Ronny Cox, Nancy Allen and Miguel Ferrer. Verhoeven will be interviewed along with co-writers Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner. Lots of the crew will be interviewed as well. No word yet if the likes of Peter Weller, Kurtwood Smith, Paul McCrane or Ray Wise will be interviewed but the production hopes that as the project comes together. Fingers crossed.
