Watch the red band trailer for the upcoming biography Straight Outta Compton, the story of the rise of hip hop group N.W.A. from director F. Gary Gray below. 

Gosh. To be alive at that time, when hip hop was exploding into the mainstream. There was nothing like it then. How do you explain it? You lived it and could relate, or, you emulated it from the safety of your parents' house. Suddenly, everyone at school was a Raiders fan. N.W.A. was one of the voices of our generation back then, and it came baring teeth. Only a few of us knew why. 

And as America seems to be on the verge of another cultural and social revolution a biography like this is so timely. The trailer is a full on display of the potency and ferocity of their lyrics and the times. 

Straight Outta Compton opens in cinemas on August 14th.
