MSG: MESSENGER OF GOD: Indian Film Reaches A New Level Of Weirdness
MSG is the brainchild of (and pardon me if I bungle this, it's kind of a beast) Saint Gurmeet Ram Raheem Ji Insan, one of India's most flamboyant "saints". The trailer was actually released on the day that PK hit theaters in a bit of inverse synergy that would make any marketing pro proud. The trailer is as crazy as it is completely incomprehensible. Lots of action, SGRRJI (for short) posing in plenty of beefcake shots, made all the more disturbing by his outstanding hirsuteness, and lots of Ruff Ryders style big pimpin' in his custom wheels.
The whole thing is outstanding, if more than a little bit disturbing. If we dig a little bit further into SGRRJI's persona, he boasts about all of his altruistic work, which makes little sense when one pays attention to the Bappi Lahiri/Mr. T quantity of bling he sports, presumably even in his sleep. He appears to subscribe to the concept of the Prosperity Gospel, but I digress.
Digging a little bit deeper still brings the even more disturbing allegations that SGRRJI forced more than 400 of his male followers to be castrated so that they would not interfere with his relations with his hundreds (thousands?) of female followers. These allegations are as yet unconfirmed, but after being reported in Indian newspapers several weeks ago, presumably following the increased attention be brought upon himself with this bonkers trailer, global news sources are beginning to take notice.
Needless to say, we do not in any way condone SGRRJI's alleged actions, but these visuals were hard to pass up. MSG opens on January 16th in India. If it opens in the US, I might be able to muster the morbid curiosity to take a look.
