When daddy arrives at the door with shotgun in hand to take his young son away you just know that things are going to go badly. How could they not? And they do, indeed, in Remy van Heugten's Gluckauf.

A selection of the International Film Festival Rotterdam, van Heugten's film spins expectations on their head by focusing less on the criminal element of the story and more on the personal toll the lifestyle takes, particularly as it crosses generations. The title of the film itself appears to be a tip to van Heugten's general approach as it appears to be borrowed from a German tanker that ran ashore off the coast of Long Island, where the wreck became a tourist attraction.
