Watch The Trailer For Wales' First Action Film KAMIKAZE
A modern film that pays homage to the 80s era of action movies. The film is inspired by the great action movies of Jackie Chan, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis. It's a fast paced action movie, with bits of humor along the way.Evan Reed is an ex M.I.6 agent who has become a mercenary for hire. Evan is hired by Cabinet Minister David Markham, to steal files containing incriminating evidence linking the MP to weapons contractors. After the mission Markham loses his nerve and orders the kidnap of Evan's pregnant girlfriend Jess. Evan is forced to fight his way through agents, thugs and a small mercenary army to rescue Jess. With the odds stacked against him and Markham's top assassin, Gabe hot on his trail, can Evan defeat him and rescue his girlfriend in time?
So, did all those years of stuntman experience pay off? I will not lie to you. Points for effort. But the execution? Yikes. First of all this is not a well cut trailer. The sound mix in the trailer is awful, right down to a crescendo with the Inception BWAAANG. The limitations of the micro production budget are evident (more on that at a later time). Some of the editing in the fight scenes and choice of camera position is questionable. Characters are cut and paste and some of the acting is strained.
As far as the action goes? I said it when we first introduced Kamikaze last year; the story and plot will not be the focus in this film. Where Kamikaze is going to earn points is with the action. There are only a couple moments in this trailer where I thought the action looked okay. Nice mid air kick from the roofs of two cars. You can see some of those Jackie Chan moments in there.
Everything else looks... safe. Planned. Projected. With the amount of stuntwork that Skakesheff has done this looks pretty standard. The trailer highlights his skills as a stuntman but does little to raise confidence in his skills as a filmmaker. Where the film was made is only a hook. The film`s success and reputation rest in the action and stunts created by Skakesheff and his team.
Our minds may change when we can look at the finished product but right now Sakesheff's talents may be best left behind the camera working with a stunt team. But hey! Here's to trying. They can build off of this experience and come out swinging the next time around (later this year I am told). No one ever started at the top.
