Extended Cut Of Ridley Scott's THE COUNSELOR Coming In February
February cannot come too soon. After audiences unwisely ignored Ridley Scott's A-lister ensemble neo-noir and critics unfairly savaged it in print and online, it seems The Counselor is getting an extended cut for its Blu-ray release on the February 11. And this is not just a scene or two added, the run-time bounces from 117 minutes to 138 minutes.

While this is par for the course for Scott, who tinkers with nearly every film, in one manner or another, given time and multiple DVD releases. Blade Runner is, of course, legendary for the number of versions, but Kingdom of Heaven's extended cut is a marvel in itself. The Counselor was of my favourite films of last year, it was the only film I made it out to the cinema three times and indeed, the film offers more reveals, nuance, and detail upon repeat viewings; or the cynicism of the piece comes into focus with the clarity of a diamond.

This disc will be more than worth it for further elucidation and decapitation entertainment in your home theatre, but you will have to go Blu, as the DVD will only feature the theatrical cut. Given the quality of the images and sound that are on display here (think a man thrumming a taut bit of razor wire strung across a deserted road), you will want to get on it in HD.

  Screen Format: Widescreen 2.40:1
