Rocking Star Manchu Manoj Returns In POTUGADU Teaser!
"Rocking Star" Manchu Manoj returns to the big screen after over a year off with Potugadu and I could not be more excited. You may not have any idea who Manchu Manoj is, and I wouldn't blame you for that. He's the son of a major film star in India, Mohan Babu, and only started getting really noticed last year with the releases of Mr. Nokia and Uu Kodathara? Ulikki Padathara? Unfortunately, if you want to know more about him it's difficult as neither of those films have home video releases yet, with or without subtitles (I know, I've been hunting for a year). However, I was able to catch UKUP in theaters last summer and while the film itself was a bit of a slog, Manchu Manoj is like a cross between Jackie Chan and Johnny Knoxville on camera: crazy action chops with no fear and a great comedic presence. In other words, he is charisma incarnate and his performances beg for a bigger audience.
This latest film, Potugadu, is more of a romantic action comedy but that hits on all of Manchu's strong points, so I'm psyched. The teaser only gives us about 45 seconds of footage, but we get to see Manchu in comedy mode, in romance mode, and in action mode, and it all looks like great fun to me. There's not a single actor in India who throws themselves more completely into action that Manchu Manoj right now, and that reckless abandon and complete disregard for personal safety makes me smile.
Potugadu is tentatively scheduled for release on November 18th.
