ECHO PLANET Trailer Aims to Save the World With 3D Action

Described as "the first Thai animated feature to be released in stereoscopic 3D," Echo Planet is an action movie with local flavor that carries a message intended to appeal to audiences worldwide.

Via Wise Kwai's Thai Film Journal, we learn that Echo Planet is the second feature from director Kompin Kemkumnird, who has experience at Disney and Blue Sky Studios (Ice Age) under his belt. His first film, Khan Kluay -- here's the synopsis from our archive -- was successful enough to spawn a sequel, but by then the director had already moved on to this project.

Echo Planet has an environmental theme, according to Wise Kwai:

It aims for even broader international appeal with an environmentally themed story about a gifted Karen boy who can talk to animals and his tough older sister who wears the traditional Karen neck-stretching rings. They rescue a foreigner boy scout who is the son of the president of Capital State. The three of then set off on an adventure in which they have to stop a project that will cause environmental havoc.

The "action" trailer embedded below is just that: filled with graceful individual movement, vehicular mayhem, determined faces, and spectacular explosions. The film is now playing theatrically in Thailand.
