Thai Star Ananda Everingham Stars In Filipino Drama KALAYAAN (Wildlife)
Thai star Ananda Everingham has charted an interesting path for himself. At some point following his breakthrough as the lead in the original version of horror picture Shutter, Everingham literally drafted a list of the most interesting directors in Thailand at the time. Then he worked his way down the list, making movies with each of them. Commercial cinema out of the way, Everingham moved on to the indies - both as an actor and producer. And having knocked that off the list he is now blazing a course through the emerging cinemas of South East Asia as a whole. He's made a movie in Laos - where pretty much nobody has made a movie - and is now moving on to The Philippines with the lead role in Adolfo Alix's Cinemalaya selected Kalayaan.

Julian, a soldier stationed in the contested Spratly Island is ordered to stay indefinitely after a coup d' etat in Manila. He is now confronted with his growing loneliness and a traumatic past. His option for survival is to cope with reality or lose his own sanity.
Alix is one of the leaders of the Filipino arthouse movement and this looks like typically strong stuff. Check the trailer below.
