Gong Li To Star In Tarsem Singh's MARCO POLO
After a career spent applying his visual skills to fantasy oriented big screen efforts like Immortals and Mirror, Mirror director Tarsem Singh is headed to China to tackle something entirely different: A historical drama.
An American / Chinese co-production backed by Endgame Entertainment, Tarsem's next will be an English language period picture about the travels of Marco Polo to China. And while the actor who will play Polo himself has not yet been announced Screen International brings word that Gong Li has been cast as the female lead.
While Li's involvement in Hollywood films has been decidedly hit and miss thus far she remains one of the biggest stars in all of Asia and her involvement is a sign that the film's Chinese partners are taking this very seriously, indeed. Production is scheduled to begin in late 2012.
