Tony Leung plays with fire in the new trailer for THE GREAT MAGICIAN
While Tsui Hark and Zhang Yimou are currently locking horns at the Chinese box office, there is another star-filled thriller waiting just around the corner that I suspect will turn out to be a winner in 2012. Derek Yee's THE GREAT MAGICIAN stars Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Lau Ching Wan and Zhou Xun in a bold blend of political intrigue, kidnapping and conjuring tricks as Leung's eponymous showman attempts to woo his former lover (Zhou) back from a ruthless general (Lau). A new trailer has recently surfaced, giving some more clues about the plot and also hints that there will be plenty of comedy thrown into the mix, along with romance, drama and visual spectacle. Yee has had an erratic run of form over the last couple of years, but here's hoping this will be the film to restore his position as one of Hong Kong's most worthwhile filmmakers.
