MGM MOD A QUIET PLACE IN THE COUNTRY aka un tranquillo Posto di Campagna

Aaaaaaaaand one of the weirdest movies I've seen this year is a nifty little number from the good folks at MGM MOD. I'd heard of this film and always been intrigued by it. An Italian suspense thriller with more than a dash of body horror the film stars a young Vanessa Redgrave and should definitely be on the radar of anyone who loves giallo although it itself doesn't quite qualify for that label in the eyes of many purists. The plot features a successful painter desperate to escape his nightmares by moving rom the city to the quite country. Accompanied by his lover/sales agent he grows increasingly disturbed as the dreams continue and he descends into a depraved and sadistic series of ritualistic sexual games. To call this film surreal is an understatement. The opening titles (which can be viewed below) give you a good idea of what you're in for. The sense of dread is palpable throughout and the tone is highly experimental. The disc offers the opportunity to watch this film in either the original Italian with removable English subtitles or in English. Classy move.
