The boys are back (sort of) in OVERHEARD 2
Back in 2009 Alan Mak and Felix Chong, assisted by producer Derek Yee, assembled an A-list cast to die-for for their lofty surveillance thriller OVERHEARD. While Lau Ching Wan, Louis Koo and Daniel Wu all put in solid turns, the script was rather half-baked. In the end, the film failed to live up to the promise of its intriguing set-up - surveillance cops cashing in on the financial information they overhear during a sting operation - but that hasn't stopped them getting the band back together for round 2.

The first trailer for OVERHEARD 2 has just landed and it seems our three leading men are now playing entirely new characters. Lau Ching Wan appears to be a shady city dealer, Louis Koo may now be the hero, while Daniel Wu could be playing the villain. All will be revealed in time.

While I wasn't a particularly big fan of the first film, Mak and Chong have redeemed themselves recently thanks to the rather fine THE LOST BLADESMAN, so with what appears to be a whole new approach this time out, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and get excited for this, although perhaps they should rename the film OVERHEARD TOO. The film opens in Hong Kong on 18 August.
