Lionsgate Announces Peter Jackson's Splatstick Landmark DEAD ALIVE (BRAINDEAD) On Blu-ray 10/4

Words cannot express how much I love Dead Alive.  Lionsgate have announced officially that this amazing film will come to Blu-ray on October 4th, only adding to the MASSIVE list of great horror films going HD in the fall.  Perhaps sometime soon I'll try to compile a list, it really is ridiculous.  There have not been any details announced yet, but I presume that this will be the US unrated cut, not the overseas version director's cut.  This is unfortunate, but I've grown up on the unrated cut, so it's okay by me.  The other question for this film is that the original Artisan DVD release was special because it was the only Anamorphic release in the world, unfortunately it was cropped from the OAR of 1.66:1 to 1.78:1.  Most international editions were either 4:3 or 1.66:1, so let's hope Lionsgate fixes this error for the Blu-ray. There are also no extras announced yet, and I wouldn't be surprised in the least if none materialize on the disc.  Amazon does not have a pre-order link up yet, but when they do I'll update this post.  Psyched!

One of the goriest fright films of all-time makes its high definition debut this fall as Lionsgate releases Dead Alive on Blu-ray Disc.  The early film from Oscar® winning director Peter Jackson (Best Director, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, 2003) is a cult classic with horror fans.  Hysterical, outrageous and filled with bloodthirsty zombies, the film hits Blu-ray just in time for its 20th anniversary.

A mama's boy who has the unfortunate task of looking after his aging, evil mother, Lionel (Timothy Balme) believes his dreams have come true when he meets the love of his life.  While out to sabotage her son's happiness, his Mum (Elizabeth Moody, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring) is accidentally bitten by a Sumatran rat-monkey, which turns her into a flesh-eating zombie.  Lionel is forced to put his relationship on hold to stop his undead mother, and the rest of the town that she's infected before it's too late.
