Cannes 2011: Trailer For Ceylan's ONCE UPON A TIME IN ANATOLIA
Turkey's preeminent arthouse director, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, returns to Cannes this year with the dark drama Once Upon A Time In Anatolia. Any picture with 'Once Upon A Time' in the title now carries a certain amount of heft to it thanks to films like Once Upon A Time In The West and it appears that Ceylan is taking full advantage of that fact, weaving a distinct crime element into the narrative here.

Life in a small town is akin to journeying in the middle of the steppes: the sense that "something new and different" will spring up behind every hill, but always unerringly similar, tapering, vanishing or lingering monotonous roads...

That synopsis may not give up much but the first trailer - embedded below - is a truly gorgeous, hypnotic affair. Take a look.
