AFFD Gears Up to Vanquish Texas with Asian Films
It is July. For me this means gearing up for my annual marathon movie event, the Asian Film Festival of Dallas. The organizers have been tossing hints at titles out via facebook and Twitter, but yesterday they finally let the cats out of the bag.
This year AFFD is screening 30+ features as well as their usual shorts programs. I'm pretty sure this may be their biggest festival ever in terms of variety. The schedule looks great, with some really awesome titles and some surprises (which are almost always my favorite part!). AFFD has a newly redesigned website that makes it easy to explore the titles, watch trailers, make your own schedule, and learn about the events. Facebook friends and Twitter followers are always the first to know about cool events and news, so be sure to check them out there as well as the official site for all the latest! Shortly I'll start posting some teaser reviews for some of the main events, but I can assure you, it is all worthwhile!
"Dallas, TX, July 6, 2010--The Asian Film Festival of Dallas (AFFD) announces the full schedule of 33 feature films and 21 shorts for its 9th Annual Film Festival, taking place July 23-29 at Landmark's Magnolia Theatre and Angelika Film Center Dallas.
FULL SCHEDULE, WITH MULTIPLE PREMIERES
Today, the AFFD announced the contents of its full 2010 schedule, which includes films from 10 countries, including China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. The ninth annual festival week will include a variety of genres and film styles, from action epics and crime dramas to charming romantic comedies and eclectic ruminations on the meaning of life. This year's festival contains something to please every interest: gangsters, ninja, geisha, aliens, monstrous wildlife, sexy ladies, math geniuses, taxi drivers, shipyard workers, farmers, sharks, young lovers, ghosts, pickpockets, zombies, ballet dancers, wolves...and a man stuck in a room with no doors. This year's roster of films includes 6 North American Premieres, 3 U.S. Premieres and 16 Southwest Premieres.

From the family-friendly SUMMER WARS and A TALE OF ULULU'S WONDERFUL FOREST, to more mature titles like NIGHT & FOG and AT THE END OF DAYBREAK, and everything in between. These are films that will be enjoyed by anyone looking for something great to watch this summer " she said.
"And yes, the genre fans will be very pleased with selections like ROBOGEISHA, PHOBIA 2, BAY RONG (CLASH) and CHAW," she said.
Hwang also offered that last year's Audience Award winner, IP MAN, will be showing at the AFFD Kickoff Party at LaGrange in Deep Ellum, a few days before the much-anticipated sequel's Centerpiece Presentation. "It's free and open to the public. We want everyone to come. It's going to be huge," she said.

For the past nine years the AFFD has grown with each festival, and during that time, promotional and commerce tools have evolved at a staggering pace. With AFFD fans clamoring for new details on the
organization's Facebook and Twitter pages, the festival is also launching a special festival website at www.affd.org.
Developed in collaboration with local design company RD2, Inc. (http://rd2inc.com/), the website will be the best place to find out information about the festival and purchase tickets.
"It pays to be a fan," said AFFD Senior Programmer Steve Norwood, who develops content for AFFD's website, Facebook and Twitter feeds. "We often provide advance information, special offers and exclusive events to folks who follow us on the social networking sites," he said. "But the 2010 AFFD fest-site will be the place to go for all the details, trailers, all anyone could need," he said. "Plus, it's just a lot of fun to go and learn about new films," he said.
