Russia pushes American romcoms out of theaters
schastlivchik.jpgIn previous posts I tried to analyze trends of current Russian cinematographic development, and pointed to historical movies. Another most prominent trend of Russian cinema is romantic comedies (romcoms).

4-5 years ago Russian cinemas were filled with American romcoms of all kinds, while it was almost impossible to find Russian one, all 90s and early 2000s Russian were watching american production. Now situation drastically changed. That happened probably because romcoms are usually cheap in production, while many comedian elements are not universal and simply don't work in other cultural environment.

Well, first Russian post-soviet romcoms were even more "americanish" than American ones, they lacked good scenarios, used unoriginal ideas and primitive vulgar jokes. But little by little situation had changed and they are now at least watchable and have good production quality.

So I would like to present you 3 trailers of recent Russian romcoms, that will be released within month.

The first one is called О, Счастливчик (Oh, Lucky guy) and tells a story of unlucky 26 y.o. guy, whose girlfriend left him, shouting "Looser!", so he decided to commit a suicide. But luckily he meets two freaks, who offer him to change his life to the life of successful young bank manager. And of course, they involve him in their own games. The movie opens in theaters on 1st October.

The second Невеста любой ценой (Bride at any cost) is about "lady-killer", who had sex with the wife of criminal boss, and then when criminal guy found it, he searches for a bride for alibi. The movie opens in theaters on 17th September.

The third one М+Ж (Male + Female) is more into melodrama about unattractive girl and handsome man.
