First Teaser for Katsuhide Motoki's GEGEGE NO KITARO 2
The recent surge of adapting popular manga into live action from studios in Japan continues to grow stronger with its consistent blockbuster success. So it came as no surprise when word got out back in January that the sequel to Gegege no Kitaro, a supernatural film based on a manga by Shigeru Mizuki, is in the works and now the first teaser has turn up at the official site. Eiji Wentz returns to the lead role as Kitaro, along with Katsuhide Motoki at the helm.
KITARO, a smash hit of 2007 reaching US$25million, is reborn as an action fantasy for not only kids, but for older audience, with a subplot of "forbidden love" between a human and yokai - monsters as an axis of the film.A half human, half yokai hero Kitaro and his buddies, performed by returning cast members, investigate a series of mysterious disappearance and finds out that it is somehow related with the "forbidden love" tragedy 1,000 years ago. Behind these incidents, there was conspiracy by the evil yokai and his followings. As Kitaro fights against these enemies, he goes through an internal conflict over his identity. Will Kitaro be able to shutter the vicious cycle and bring love and peace to the world?
Shochiku plans to release the film theatrically in Japan on July 12th. Check the teaser below after the break.
