Mamoru Oshii's AVALON out in a Blu-Ray boxset

Japanese auteur Oshii's beautifully realized sci-fi spin on Arthurian legend has been released in Japan in a boxset containing a Blu-Ray HD version of the film, an SD version, and a Japanese-language booklet. The sort of picture which seems to call out for high-res exhibition, Avalon reps one of the more unique films (both in terms of content and production - it's a Japanese film, produced in Poland with Polish-speaking actors) to come around this decade, and it sounds like this release offers an outstanding visual experience for those willing and able to double-dip. The price tag clocks in at just about $90 - a whopper to be sure, but potentially worth it to true fans.

Worth noting that the BR disc is classed as "Region A", meaning it will play in Japanese and North American BR players (but not those in the UK, China, or Russia).
