A Trailer For Turkish Psych-Drama CENNET

[Once again here is our resident Turkish correspondent Zeren with word on a new psychological drama coming from Turkey.]

Cennet is the sophomore movie of Araf (The Abortion) director Biray Dalkiran. His first movie, an anti-abortion horror film which has been released on DVD in USA, last October, by Pathfinder Pictures, had mostly got poor reviews from Turkish movie critics. But watching the trailer and considering its selection for the 6th Eliat International Film Festival in Israel, I believe there is reason to be hopeful about this one. Production qualities look good if not impressive and with its story line, the movie clearly stands out among the recent Turkish films. There is definitely something to appreciate in Dalkiran's courage of trying to blend genres like sci-fi, fantasy and psychological drama, in his second feature, considering the lack of traditions in these genres in Turkish cinema. The theatrical release date in Turkey has recently been announced as April 11, 2008.

Here is the synopsis for Cennet (Heaven):

A is a 29 year old mentally disordered individual diagnosed with atypical psychosis who has a strong imagination despite his low IQ. Loosing his mother at 7 years old, he has been living in a fantasy world where his mother's still with him. Trapped in this fantasy land called CENNET (Heaven), he has spent a lonely childhood under the wings of his protective father. Behind all his affection for his son, father has been concealing a life altering secret about his son.

A, one day meets a beautiful girl and lets her into his dream world. As they happily start to live together in their CENNET, Tuba, a young scientist who's been working on an experimental drug to help people with learning disabilities, shows up. To her, A is the perfect test subject.
