KOFIC Announces Support Program for Hub-Library for Korean Film Studies
Friends, family and co-workers were already becoming increasingly concerned about my obsession with Korean films, but when I informed them of my decision to move to South Korea, you'd think I'd announced that I was selling my kidney or joining the Church of Scientology. Between all the packing up and poring over mountains of incomprehensible contracts, I haven't had much time to post in a while. Hopefully, once I get settled in, I'll be able to give more up-to-date reports on the latest DVDs, movies and film industry news. Earlier this month, we reported that the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), as part of its strategy to promote Korean cinema, was making available ten films for screening by interested institutions and art house theatres in North America. KOFIC now announces that it will provide Korean film-related publications and DVDs to overseas libraries for the use of Korean Film Studies scholars and students. University libraries and research centers offering both Film Studies and Korean Studies are eligible to apply for the program. On a related note, the Korean Film Directors Series, formerly available only through Seoul Selection, is now available through our affiliate YesAsia. The books include biographical information, interviews, analysis, and filmographies. The first titles in the series are dedicated to three heavyweights of Korean cinema: Im Kwon-taek, Lee Chang-dong and Kim Ki-young.
