Steve Coogan's Saxondale Returns August 23rd 2007.

This is the only unbroadcast show I'm interested in pointing out right now, and although it's short notice and not entirely going to apply to that many people, It's worth noting for the select few who will want to take note that this is happening... next week, Thursday to be exact.

Anyway, Saxondale, typically of Steve Coogan, is far more interesting that any single film project he's taken on - although next year sees another, a British film rather than an American project, with Coogan as Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards, our magnificently unsuccessful ski-jumper of old - and shows exactly why he's far better sticking around to do these kind of relatively low-key but enjoyable characters. He's simply good at them, he gets them right, he doesn't get lost, and he's in control. It's that simple.

Here, Coogan plays ex-roadie (now pest controller) with anger management issues, a comparatively young lady friend, and an inability to let go of his past even though he's aged and convinced himself to some extent that he's still very young too. It's not vintage, it's not the best thing he's done for TV, but it is what he's doing right now well enough to warrant watching it. If you can.

Still no sign, just yet, of Series One appearing on DVD.
