What was once named Yangtze River 7 is apparently now named A Hope [Chang Jiang Yi Hao]. Filming is underway in Ningbo, Zhejiang province. Here's what we know now about the film via two interpretations of the storyline...

CRIENGLISH In the film, Stephen Chow breaks stereotypes by putting on shabby clothes to portray his character, a poor father who can't afford a toy for his son. He then decided to pick one out from the garbage. It turns out the magical toy from the garbage is actually from outer space. From there, the adventure begins. Critics reportedly call the fiction movie a powerful alternative to the currently oversaturated martial arts films, which audiences seem to be getting fed up with. Some even say it may generate another trend for the Chinese movie industry.

MonkeyPeaches Chow plays a semi-homeless man lives in a semi-demolished house. He "adopted" a homeless kid, who is really played by a girl. One day, Chow finds a "toy" in the trash and brings it back to his "son", who wishes to own a toy just like other kids. The "toy" is actually an alien device with unlimited power and the aliens are desperately to get it back.

So. The actor playing his son is a girl. Sort of like Wong Fei Hong in Iron Monkey I guess. Monkepeaches also linked to four set photos here, here, here and there.
