Oooh ... this is one I've been meaning to catch for quite a while but, although I've been at a couple festivals that have screened it, I've not been able to catch it on the big screen just yet. Why the interest? Well, it has been on the receiving end of hugely positive buzz, it's the latest in a long line of hot properties to come out of Latin America, it's produced by Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo Del Toro neither of whome should require any introduction here, and, finally, it features what should be a break out performance from John Leguizamo - in my opinion a hugely talented actor who has been grossly under used by Hollywood. Basically this film looks like put up or shut up time for John - he's finally been handed a lead role in a film with some meat to it - and the word is that he put up big time.

Here's the official synopsis: "The scoop: From the producers of Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN comes a shocking new thriller about the power of the media. Tabloid TV reporter, Manolo Bonilla (John Leguizamo) has traveled from Miami with his news crew on the trail of a story about a serial killer striking a small town in Ecuador. Convinced this story could be the 'big one' that makes him a network star, he is willing to bend the rules to get the facts. But the closer he gets to uncovering the truth, the more he finds his carefully planned story spinning dangerously out of control. Soon, Bonilla and his crew find themselves at the center of a frightening situation where even the best intentions can backfire. Featuring a pan-Latin cast and crew, CRONICAS is written and directed by Sebastian Cordero and produced by acclaimed filmmakers Alfonso Cuarón and Guillermo del Toro."
