Ah ... it's nice to have other people feeding my various obsessions for me. It saves a lot of effort on my part ...

I've talked often enough about my love for Nicholaj Lie Kaas and Anders Tomas Jensen here that a kind, albeit anonymous, soul has just passed along a brief review of Solkongen, the latest collaboration between the actor and screenwriter. Check out the official website and trailer here then read on ...

THE SUN KING (SOLKONGEN)

A dyslexic virgin, Tommy is 30 and lives at home.
(He's played by Nikolaj Lie Kaas, from GREEN BUTCHERS,
IN CHINA THEY EAT DOGS, and the upcoming
RECONSTRUCTION.) On his second day as an
electrician's assistant, he botches up a job at a
tanning salon. In the process, though, he meets with
the salon chain's rich and newly available owner,
Susse (Birthe Neumann). They begin a tentative
romance, despite the difference in their ages (Susse
is more than 20 years older), the objections of the
salon chain's uptight #2 executive, and the
temptations of a young and beautiful salon worker
(Mira Wanting, sexy dressing here, but really good in
RULE #1). Tommy's friends Flemming Cook and Ole
Finland alternately help and hinder the relationship.

Anders Thomas Jensen co-scripted with Tomas Villum
Jensen, who directed. As you might expect from A.T.
Jensen, THE SUN KING features a funny, mostly likable
set of characters and the running time passes
pleasantly. But it's not as good as I hoped it would
be; the light comic tone doesn't dig too deep, and the
social commentary is minimal. Still, it's well made,
and I laughed enough to recommend it; worth looking
for if it comes to a festival or DVD rental store near you.
