NIGHT OF THE WITCH: Watch The POC Trailer For 80s Influenced Horror, Support Their Crowdfunding Campaign
This one is for you low-budget horror fans out there. Fry cook by day and independent short filmmaker by night Jesse James Hennessy is looking to make his feature film debut with an homage to 80s VHS movies with his upcoming horror flick Night of the Witch.
Night of the Witch is a throwback to the classic horror flicks of the 80's. Giving many nods to epic films such as: Evil Dead 2 - Dead by Dawn, Friday the 13th Part 8 - Jason Takes Manhattan, Night of the Demons, Sorority House Massacre, The Return of the Living Dead, and Fright Night.
The year is 1989 and a group of high school seniors head out to a cabin in the woods for one last blast before going off into the big bad world of adulthood. Against better judgment they pick up a seductively charming hitchhiker who unbeknownst to them is an evil blood thirsty witch out for fresh young victims. As the gang fades into an eve of booze, drugs and sex, the sadistic intentions of the witch are revealed turning their good times into a horrific night of cat and mouse. One by one they are hunted and slain until the remaining few must confront the evil witch if they ever want to see 1990 in all its glory. Night of the Witch is a good ole’ 80’s slasher with plenty of blood, boobs, bad lines and rad hair!
I do not know about you, but lately I am starting to shy away from anyone who says that they are making an homage to 80s VHS culture. Because EVERYONE has been saying it for the past couple years now, for me it has lost its intended impact Hey! I remember the 80s. It's like this filmmaker is speaking directly to me!
So if saying this irks you so much, Andrew, why bring it up at all? I will tell you, faithful reader, why I am bringing up this project and it is admittedly a pretty juvenile reason. The line 'Girl on girl on tree kissing'. That made me laugh out loud. I know. Juvenile.
Look. Everyone should be able to aim for their goals, right? Someone like JHH has been making short films for seven years now, perhaps he deserves a chance. If Night of the Witch does get made the very least it is going to do is make the festival circuit at a lower tier. It could show the horror community that he can handle a large project and someone with deeper pockets may back him the next time.
