Morbido Fest 2016: The Invasion of Mexico City

Looks like the Morbido family is sticking close to home this year as the ninth edition of one of the most important Latin American genre film festivals is staying in Mexico City this year.

While we have loved going to destinations like Patzcuero and Puebla in the past we are excited to be staying with our Morbido family in one of the largest cities in the World. Have you been there? It's mental. It nearly has the population of Canada in the metropolitan area of Mexico City! We usually drop into the MXC then take off the next morning to our destination but not this year. An entire week in the MXC? Wow.

Today, the festival's suave director Pablo Guisa Koestinger is announcing the festival's homestay. As well he will be announcing a distribution label that will launch with Isaac Ezban's The Similars. The festival is also announcing a roadshow of classic horror films that will travel to 30 Mexican cities and other countries in Latin America and will make its final stop during Morbido Fest in early November. There will also be the cultural ventures where guests will get experiences beyond the cinema.

And. AND. There will be a tribute to John Landis with the director coming to the festival this year for a 35th anniversary screening of his seminal classic An American Werewolf in London. I cannot even begin to imagine what sort of costume Pablo is going to be dressed up like for this screening.

September 8th 2016, Mexico City. After eight successful editions, MORBIDO FEST starts a new phase in Mexico City where the 9th edition will take place.  The capital of the country will host for the first time one of the most important horror and fantasy film festivals in Latin America.

From the 2nd to the 6th of November MORBIDO FEST will showcase the latest films from the fantasy & horror genre along with international guest and filmmakers that are leading voices in the genre around the world.

For the last nine years MORBIDO has been promoting and crafting horror and fantasy films by becoming an important window for the new wave of Mexican and Latin American genre directors and by starting a distribution label that will launch “The Similars”, a unique Sci-fi film from Mexican director Isaac Ezban.

This year Mórbido Group is proud to announce an alliance with Cinepolis. Together they present a joint venture, entitled Classic Film Festival, which will showcase a selection of classic horror films that will travel to 30 cities in Mexico along with various countries in Latin America.

This joint venture starts on October 28th with the Classic Film Festival and the screening of horror classics in 30 different cities in Mexico and culminates with the screening of contemporary horror films that are part of the MORBIDO FEST 2016 official selection on the following Cinepolis theaters: Cinépolis Diana, Cinépolis Fórum Buenavista and Cinépolis Universidad.

At the same time MORBIDO FEST will invade Mexico City which screenings in different venues such as:  Autocinema Coyote, Centro de Cultura Digital, Museo Numismático Nacional – Casa de Moneda de México along with other venues yet to be announced.

As with every edition, the festival will offer a multiple cultural experience beyond cinema, which will include book presentations and lucha libre.
