BiFan Goes All Out with Mouthwatering 20th Edition

Humidity is in the air in Seoul which means BiFan is just around the corner! This evening, the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival unveiled its big 20th edition lineup, which is sure to get local genre film fans salivating.

BiFan will open this year with Matt Ross' Captain Fantastic, which debuted at Cannes last month, and close with Yeon Sang-ho's zombie animation Seoul Station, which precedes the events of Train to Busan, another Cannes 2016 alumni.

The fest's competition section, Bucheon Choice, will feature Na Hong-jin's The Wailing, Babak Anvari's Under the Shadow and Qing Yang's Chongqing Hot Pot among others. The Korean Fantastic section will feature festival favourite Karaoke Crazies, as well as recent thrillers Insane and The Phantom Detective.

Among the highlights in the festival's World Fantastic Streams are Nicholas Winding Refn's Neon Demon, Anurag Kashyap's Psycho Raman, Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Creepy, Herman Yau's The Mobfathers, Can Evrenol's Baskin, Kurando Mistake's Karate Kill and Eiichiro Hasumi's Assassination Classroom: Graduation.

For its 20th anniversary, BiFan will stage a 20 Years, 20 Favorites program, which includes Korean favourites like Bedevilled, Save the Green Planet and The Chaser alongside global titles like Memento, Amelie, Let the Right One In, Requiem for a Dream and American Psycho.

Other programs include a tribute to David Bowie, a retrospective onTetsuya Nakashima, a focus on French film house Gaumont and a Best of Asia lineup, which will include the top three box office titles from 10 Asian countries in 2015.

BiFan kicks on July 21st and ScreenAnarchy will be there in force to eat copious amounts of Korean BBQ, indulge in long karaoke sessions and, of course, taste the best that genre cinema has to offer in 2016. Before hand we'll take a closer look at the program so check in again for a full breakdown.
