Director David Freyne has seen the future and it's not friendly. No, the Irish director has released his short film The First Wave online and the film, which serves as a precursor to a proposed feature, posits a gritty and realistic take and the viral outbreak that leads to a zombie apocalypse.

Following the outbreak of an aggressive virus, a young woman awakes in a hospital bed. As the horrifying events that led her there are revealed, it becomes clear that the cure is just the beginning.
