Golly. Final FAST AND FURIOUS 6 Trailer Blows Stuff Up Real Good.
How's this for something that would have seemed unimagineable to say just a few years ago but now seems abundantly obvious: Justin Lin is not coming back to direct Fast And Furious 7 and that's a bad thing. It's bad because Lin has taken a franchise that had its beginning as the guiltiest of guilty pleasures and reinvented it as arguably the most reliable of all American action vehicles, embracing the ridiculous elements and elevating them to high entertainment while also reinventing himself as the absolute finest director of vehicular mayhem on the planet.

Yeah, they're big and dumb and totally, 100% adolescent wish fulfillment and they do it so well that they've become pretty damn awesome.

All of which to say: Here's the final trailer for the final Fast movie to be directed by Lin. It does not disappoint. At all.

Sometimes I just don't understand your logic, Todd.

How so? These movies have gone from being merely stupid to being gloriously stupid and really entertaining in the process. Fast Five was the most fun I've had at an American action film in AGES and this looks to build upon that.

Most of the good stuff is shot by the 2nd unit director

Lamenting Lin leaving a series that's going on part 7? Seriously? C'mon, dude. Lin could be doing so much better. Let's just say I've been waiting a minute for Justin Lin to move onto something else. I won't argue the merits of these films with you. If you like 'em so be it. I can't bring myself to call these elevated in any way other than budget. I was bored shit less by the three of these films I've seen.

Oh, I'm totally happy he's doing other stuff - I'm a big fan of Finishing the Game and his Community episodes are among my favorites - but there's a part of me that'd like to see him alternate. Something big and dumb a noisy followed by something more personal and back and forth onwards like that ...

I fully expect to see a lot more good stuff from Lin, I just also expect the Fast movies to be a lot less fun without him.
