Garth Marenghi To Unleash THE REPRIZALIZER
A wee bit of history for those who may have missed it:

In 2004 Richard Ayoade and Matthew Holness teamed up to create Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, a six part horror comedy series that the duo co-wrote with Ayoade taking directing duties and playing a minor role while Holness played the titular Garth Marenghi. The show became an outright cult sensation - it still has a whopping 9.0 rating on the IMDB, which is pretty remarkable - establishing Ayoade, who has since made his feature directing debut with Submarine, as a writer, performer and director while launching other comic talents such as Matt Berry into the world at large.

Surprisingly one of the men most responsible for the success of the show - Holness - has been the quietest of the lot since. It was Holness who really embodied the thing in his dual role as Garth Marenghi - writer of pulp horror novels - and Dr Rick Dagless - surgeon in a hospital built upon the gates of hell in a filmed adaptation of one of Marenghi's novels - and you would have expected opportunity to come knocking for him but it hasn't, really. That is, it hasn't until now.

Holness made his debut as a director at the London Film Festival with a short film titled A Gun For George, in which he plays both a pulp crime novelist and his vigilante creation, and now Warp are backing a feature version of that same concept titled The Reprizalizer. Producer Ally Gipps claims that the film is "not an out and out comedy" which is hard to accept based on that title but Holness' particular charm lies in his ability to be funny without without resorting to big gags and punchlines so it may very well be a fair assessment of his particular meta-style.

Shooting will commence next year with an eye to a 2013 release but the official website of Holness' fictional writer Terry Finch is already online.
