THE CABIN IN THE WOODS Is Finally Out Of The Woods And On Screens April 13, 2012
You hear that faint sound? Like popcorn in the distance? That's the sound of Whedonites' heads exploding at the prospect of having not one but two Joss Whedon related films on the big screen within the next year or so.

Whedon's fans - and I do count myself among them - are a ravenous lot but lately they've been focusing all their attention on The Avengers for the simple reason that it's being backed by a company that isn't bankrupt. Which, for a rather long time now, has not been the case with The Cabin In The Woods.

Written by Whedon and directed by Cloverfield writer Drew Goddard, The Cabin In The Woods was meant to be on screens everywhere in early 2010. Problem is - whoopsie! - that shortly after making it, backers MGM realized they didn't have the money to actually release it. Or do anything else with any of their titles. The Cabin In The Woods was one of the casualties of the MGM financial fiasco and it's been sitting on the shelf ever since.

But no more!

Lionsgate signed on to distribute the film and have just announced a release date of April 13, 2012, meaning audiences will finally get the chance to see it and MGM might be able to make back some of their investment. The surprise here isn't that Lionsgate is taking it but that it's taken this long for a deal to get done and the date set. Speculation is the good start for Thor - Chris Hemsworth also stars in this - finally pushed it over the hump.
