DVD Review: H. R. Pufnstuf: The Complete Series Collector's Edition
One of the perks of reviewing films is that in addition to requesting DVDs to review, sometimes things just show up in the mail. This was one of the latter. I am too young to have watch H. R. Pufnstuf when it first aired, but my wife saw it, and this brought back some memories.
With all of the stupid shit kids watch these days, like Spongebob and his pals, it is amazing to see what real creative talent used to come up with. HR Pufnstuf is a fantastic, fun show that came from the same minds that brought us Land of the Lost, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, and created the costumes of The Banana Splits. Sid & Marty Krofft were a force to be reckoned with in 1970's TV, and this is a great testament to a great idea done right.
This Pufnstuf collector's edition contains the entire series on three DVDs in a nifty digipak case. The collector's edition also includes an H. R. Pufnstuf bobblehead figure in its own box. This is a great value for the prices I'm seeing. As extras, the package includes a never-before-released episode of Horror Hotel from The Krofft Superstar Hour and downloadable coloring pages, you know, for kids!
As I said, it is hard to present a critical view of something that is just so much fun to watch, but this is a winner and one I'm glad I own now.
