Keenan Marshall Keller Has Had An INTERGALACTIC BREAKDOWN
OK sugar zonked bug eyed ex-latch-key kids and ADD damaged post-irony weirdos, it's time for another dose of surrealistic Dada-dic mayhem...in space!
Keenan Marshall Keller is one twisted individual. His comic book INTERGALACTIC BREAKDOWN is like a drugged out version Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter of Mars if the titular hero was named 'Roid and was eerily reminiscent scary, over stimulated workout and infomercial guru Tony Little.
Influenced by the almighty sweet leaf, the underground comix of the 60's and 70's, painter/desgner Gary Panter , and Holy Hannah knows what else, I was charmed by INTERGALACTIC BREAKDOWN's intentionally juvenile art, and sparse use of panel space and a flat four color palette. If you are a fan of twisted ink and groove to stuff like Superjail, Pee Wee's Playhouse, Dolph Lundgren flicks (and who doesn't?!?) and Rip Taylor, then this comic is for you! I recently spoke with Keenan, and made him answer for what he has done.

TWITCH - Where the hell did GALACTIC BREAKDOWN come from? What were you ON dude?

Keenan - Well, it was the spring of 2009 & i was struggling with the problem of my mind interfering with my drawing... I was constantly rethinking pieces, leaving them half done in disgust, just not being productive or creative anymore.  I had become stunted. So one day i smoked a joint with the intention of drawing mindlessly and drew what became the first issues cover based on a character sketch i had done weeks prior.  I just let it come to me.  Then i decided to just keep going with it and what came out of that was Galactic Breakdown #1.  Also, at the time i was working as an Art Dept. thug for a porn company making overly extravagant sets for people to fuck on... The crew i worked with partied hard and so that had a lot to do with this as well...

TWITCH - What artists and media influence your work?

Keenan - I have loved comics all my life but never thought i could draw one because of my obvious artistic limitations but finally i got over that and pushed one out!  G.B. is influenced by an array of different media and artists.  Everything from, Bad Sci-Fi, Gary Panter, Manhua Comic (chinese action comics), Weed, The Last Dragon, Gloo-Wave and Weirdo Punk music (Wizzard Sleeve, Spits, Static Static, Human Eye, ect), Weightlifters and the body obsessed, Sly Stallone, Paper Rad, Underground Comix of the 60's & 70's, Awesomely bad 80's soundtracks, John Carpenter and Stretch Armstrong....  plus the title was influenced by the Quintron song, "Miniature Breakdown".
So many other things as well but these are the basics...

TWITCH - What audience is GALACTIC BREAKDOWN geared towards?

Keenan - Really never thought about it... I guess i'm looking for anyone whom supports weird and loves comix and art.
Your basic post-apocalyptic weirdos and survivors of this new age....

TWITCH - With the primitive childlike artwork (which works quite well btw) is this something that is actually difficult to do? Is this what your art in general looks like, or are you going for a certain vibe?

Keenan - Well there is a clear cut difference between Galactic Breakdown and my other work.  Its just a portion of my mind and artistic sensibilities.  GB is a way for me to cut loose and be as stoopid as i wanna be... Thats why the color is sooo intense, because i rarely use color in my other works and i wanted to play with disgustingly day-glo colors and combinations of them.  This is my 1st comic & I am learning how to do this as i go along...

TWITCH
- Are there more GALACTIC BREAKDOWNS coming?

Keenan
- Why yes there is! I am in the middle of drawing the 3rd issue which should be out by late spring or early summer!
Its going to be full of insanity! Alien Hitlers Subterranean Birthday Bash, the introduction of some new charcters and even more stoopid violent glee!
I was planning on doing an over-sized mega issue but it seems it would be too big for me to print so i've cut it short, leaving the rest for issue #4 which also will be out later this year.
I plan on maybe only doing 5 issue before the series changes... Its a secret, though so thats all i can say.

TWITCH
-  Any chance of seeing GALACTIC BREAKDOWN animated one day? It seems like it could potentially appeal to fans of stuff like SUPERJAIL and AQUA TEEN HUNGER FORCE.

Keenan - Shit. That could be cool. I already have everyone and there mom tell me that its a Superjail rip-off so why not!? I would love to see something like that but that seems completely unrealistic. I don't see many veiny dicks and Robo-whore tits on Adult Swim, plus the language might be a problem... But i would love to see Roids walk and talk some day... Maybe even a "live-action" short would be even better. But if anyone readying this can help me get this shit turned into a tv show I would be into it.

So simultaneously expand AND numb your brain with a dose of interstellar drugged out nightmare logic goodness and hit the official website of Keenan's Drippy Bone Books  and order up INTERGALACTIC BREAKDOWN today. It'll have your veins poppin' and your eyes trippin' right quick.
