Fly, NORWEGIAN NINJA, Fly!
There are a host of visual treats to catch the eye in Thomas Cappelen Malling's Norwegian Ninja but one of the most remarkable - a shot of which is included in the trailer - is one accomplished without the use of any special effects at all. At a key moment of the film a pair of ninja simply throw themselves off a cliff, the camera following to reveal they are wearing a type of base jumping flight suit with wing flaps running from wrist to ankle and they soar through the air, just feet away from the sheer cliff face.
The sequence was executed with the help of a group of Norwegian base jumpers who do this sort of thing for fun on a regular basis. The production kitted them up with a couple of costume suits and provided them with camera gear so that a third jumper could follow behind and film the flight. Of the three, one - Espen Fadnes - was judged the fastest flying human alive at an event this summer, a title he won using the flight suit created for the film.
