Trailer For Chris Landreth's CG Animated Short THE SPINE

Canadian animator Chris Landreth continues to expand his self-proclaimed visual technique of "Psychorealism" following his Oscar winning animated short Ryan in 2004 with his latest directorial effort The Spine. In the words of Karan Singh, the term Psychorealism is refer as "the glorious complexity of the human psyche depicted through the visual medium of art and animation." For a preview of this surreal animation, a trailer with a making-of video attach at the end of it is available online at the National Film Board of Canada site. Here's the official synopsis:

The Spine is a poignant story of redemption that takes us into the relationship between a man and a woman trapped in a spiral of mutual destruction.

Dan and Mary Rutherford, married 26 years, sit unhappily in a couples’ group counselling session. Angela, another troubled participant in this group, wonders why their marriage has become so lopsided, so twisted. But when Mary leaves Dan, he undergoes a beautiful transformation. What will happen when she returns?

With The Spine, Oscar®-winning director Chris Landreth (Ryan) has created an insightful and daring look at the ways individuals evolve, adapt and break.

Those attending the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2009 will have the chance to see the 11-minute animated short sometime in June 8-13th. You'll find the Spine trailer and the complete short of Ryan after the break.
