James Lee's HISTERIA Goes To Singapore

Malaysian independent filmmaker James Lee's mainstream horror flick, Histeria, will be having its international premiere at the 21st Singapore International Film Festival, which will take place from April 4 to 14. As we've reported before, this film looks bloody, nothing like any of Lee's previous films. Lee, together with Amir Muhammad, were the two filmmakers who kickstarted the whole Malaysian New Wave of independent digital filmmaking. Lee is more known for his ponderous human dramas like The Beautiful Washing Machine and Before We Fall In Love Again.

This, however, isn't the first time Lee is attempting a horror film - he contributed a segment in the horror collection Visits: A Hungry Ghost Anthology a few years back. But this would be the first time he goes all out with the gore.

The festival website wrongly stated that Histeria "is the first of the new Malaysian independent films to be shot on 35mm." It's produced by Tayangan Unggul, which is one of the major companies in Malaysia that produces mainstream movies.
