First Look Studios Inc. is scheduled to release Donato Rotunno's In a Dark Place on DVD (FLP-31259; NTSC, region 1, English w/ Spanish subtitles) in the U.S. on June 19th; the DVD is available for pre-order from ScreenAnarchy affiliate Amazon.com Inc.. The movie has been rated ‘R' by the Classification And Rating Administration (CARA) "for some sexual content/nudity and disturbing images."

As was reported here on ScreenAnarchy back on August 3rd of last year, the screenplay for In a Dark Place was written by Peter Waddington, based on the novella The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. The movie apparently stars Leelee Sobieski as Anna Veigh, Tara Fitzgerald as Ms. Grose, Graham Pountney as Mr. James, Thomas Sanne as the headmaster, Gabrielle Adam as Flora, and Christian Olson as Miles.

Here's a synopsis for In a Dark Place from the website of film finance company 120dB Films: "Anna [V]eigh, a recently qualified art therapist, is finding work at her inner city special school a tougher psychological challenge than she can cope with. The offer of a post minding two wealthy young orphans whilst their uncle is away on business in America seems a perfect escape for her. ¶ Anna's life changes markedly for the better. Her new workplace is a remote country house with beautiful grounds and resident staff. The children are sweet and charming and she thinks that she has really ‘landed on her feet' after the rigours of her previous job. ¶ But all is not as it seems. Anna makes disquieting discoveries. The older boy has been expelled from school, for a sin so dreadful the headmaster will not even discuss it. She then learns that her predecessor in the job died under suspicious circumstances. To add to her unease, she catches glimpses of unknown sinister figures lurking in the grounds, yet nobody else admits to seeing them. ¶ Anna confronts the frosty estate manager, Miss Grose with her suspicions and is surprised by the force of her reaction. The figures Anna describes are unmistakably those of two ex-employees at the house. The only problem is that these employees are dead. ¶ Anna senses that the ghostly manifestations are evil. Not only is the psychological welfare of the children in very real jeopardy, but their lives and their souls are also at risk. Anna is forced to confront dark secrets buried deep in her own psyche as she fights to cleanse the children's souls of darkness, with terrifying consequences for all concerned."
