'Subtitle This'. Special, Part 2.
Here we are again then, six months down the line and going through the archives looking at the films of interest... this serves as a reminder of what we've covered more than anything else, though the primary intention is to point those films out to potential licensees as a way of saying that out of all that we've written about, these look the most interesting, all said and done.
For those that read on (and decide to contribute to the comments below) I will give those 5 films which I think are of most direct interest to myself in no particular order, and I encourage everyone else to do the same. Thanks.
Argetine Hag. Genius Party. The Matsugane Potshot Affair. Maiko Haaaan!. Umoregi.
Hate to have to remind anyone, but remember this is a list drawn up by one individual that covers material written about by various individuals within this site; it is not a list intended to go too far into the realms of distorting individual taste for the sake of others, not as much as it is the most obviously interesting stuff which both is of interest to me, the original writer, and to what I personally feel is a waiting audience. This requires being a member of the writing staff and making visible contributions on a regular basis (often repeatedly about the same films, though not necessarily) and selecting, according to individual taste, films you want to make more visible to the people that read the site.
Alternatively, and since there were some cries of "It's only a blog!" when Twitch first appeared, there's both the opportunity (as always) to select additional things you think are of some interested to yourselves and to others simultaneously - give me a top 5 of the lists I provide here, or make such a list to include other films written about around here (or not, as the case may be) and post them in the comments - or, you can start your own site and pick out films on a regular basis, I suppose.
Unless people are vocal about what they feel particularly stands out, companies will doubtless lead their own decisions completely independantly, and the issues which plague us all will perpetuate unless discussed in an open and obvious fashion. I am still amazed at the revolving issues that have gone of for many years which are still unresolved to the point that they've become walls which we can't get past in order to approach other issues we often dare not mention, and I'm still amazed at peoples attempts to pigeonhole and isolate films in a stereotypical fashion which leads to dead-ends rather than a broadening market.
Yes, as a lone voice, I realise any given individual might as well paint their key issues on a sandwich board and walk around the streets of any large city - you'll just as quickly look insane, and that's how I feel when I come around to discussing issues - so please, as with here in this post, make yourselves heard. The lists of titles shown here are only one small part of the picture which will make our possible choices for us, everyone that has an opinion on the films selected will add another small part to the effect we can have; so, the more the merrier, two heads are better than one, etc...
