"Volver" and "Pan" nab Goyas

Pedro Almodovar's acclaimed film "Volver," nabbed top honors at the Goya's, Spain's equivalent to the Oscars, while Guillermo Del Toro's "Pan's Labyrinth" also went home with awards at hand.

Pedro Almodovar's acclaimed film "Volver," nabbed top honors at the Goya's, Spain's equivalent to the Oscars, while Guillermo Del Toro's "Pan's Labyrinth" also went home with awards at hand.

After being nominated for fourteen awards, "Volver" nabbed Best Actress for Penelope Cruz, Best Director, and Best Film just to name a few, further widening the year of the many successes for Almodovar.

But the equal success was in Del Toro's "Pan's Labyrinth," collecting the most awards, nabbing Seven including Best Original Screenplay.

Del Toro pays homage to Almodovar for his success, boasting, "My relationship with Spain as a filmmaker is one of profound admiration and respect... that began with the hand of Pedro (Almodovar)."

For Best Actor Juan Diego won for "Vete De Mi," while a few of the awards were nabbed by non-Spanish fare, including "The Queen," which one for Best European Film.

Next month will hopefully be more wins for Almodovar and Del Toro, which many critics and speculators are vying for top honors.
