Gotye Teams With THE CAT PIANO Directors To Create Pure Art
One of the greatest short films of 2009 was The Cat Piano, narrated by Nick Cave, which was shortlisted for an Academy Award.

Written and directed by Ari Gibson and Eddie White, The Cat Piano did the viral rounds on the interwebs, fuelled by festival wins and great word of mouth. One of the people clearly wowed by it was Wally De Backer, a musician from Australia who trades under the name Gotye.

For his previous music videos Gotye had collaborated with a range of animators, from Brendan Cook on 'Hearts A Mess', to Shannon Cross on 'Learnalilgivinanlovin', not to mention his longtime visual colloborator Jake Simkin.

With a new album coinciding with headline Sydney Opera House gigs at the Graphic Festival this weekend, we can see that Gotye has continued to hunt out and support the most exciting Australian animators, including the duel directors of The Cat Piano

Firstly, with Ari Gibson he has created a sublime video for the song 'Bronte' that is equal parts Jungle Book and Hayao Miyazaki, that can only skyrocket Gibson into the stratosphere and cement him as one of the premier indie animators working today.

With Eddie White, the musician is currently honing a Katsuhiro Otomo-styled video for the song 'Easy Way Out', which will be projected on stage during the upcoming tour.

Both White and Gibson are planning to collaborate together again soon, and if this sort of output is any idea, that time can't come soon enough.
